The third distinction

Physical Quotient (PQ)

Your primary responsibility both to yourself and to those who depend on you is to stay healthy.  Therefore uninterrupted physical fitness is a vital requirement of anyone holding a leadership or any other kind of key role in life today.  According to Mariah Burton Nelson, author and authority on Physical Intelligence, becoming a healthy person has nothing to do with diet and everything to do with how you treat yourself.

The essence of Physical Intelligence

Physical Intelligence is a measure of the degree to which your psyche is in touch with the signals your body is continually radiating.

The crux of the matter is that unless we are permanently tuned in to the signals our bodies are continuously sending, we inevitably find ourselves suffering from the symptoms of one ailment or another; a slight stiffness in the back we have ignored for a week, suddenly takes a turn for the worse and we find ourselves in pain and unfit for work.

Three guidelines:

Mariah Burton Nelson offers us the following three guidelines for lifting the level of our physical intelligence.  They are:-

Firstly, raise your level of self awareness: tune in to what your body is trying to tell you.  When your knee hurts is it OK to keep running or not?  Are you reading its signals correctly?  When you are hungry are you hungry for food or Love?  Feel the physical sensations: tune in to your sub conscious mind and get in touch with your inner feelings.  Be still: remain restful and you will soon know instinctively what action to take.

Secondly, make a vow to yourself!  What if you promised your body you would “have and hold it; love and cherish it, in sickness and in health, from this day forward”?  Considering the stakes namely, extreme illness, disability, possibly even death, isn’t it remarkable that so few people make the same commitment to themselves as they make to others?

Thirdly, swallow your pride!  Your body can’t tell you everything. Tests, X-rays, medical check-ups, etc can detect problems you can’t detect on your own. So don’t depend on your Physical Intelligence alone. From time to time seek help from professionals

Finally, never forget that your primary responsibility to those who depend on you is to stay healthy.  Fortunately, your body is telling you almost everything you need to know
